"Japan and Fashion: Influence and Impact" will open Feb. 24 in the Robert Hillestad Textiles Gallery. The exhibit, curated by Barbara Trout, professor of textiles, merchandising and fashion design at UNL, features Japanese-influenced garments from the Department of Textiles, Merchandising and Fashion Design's historic costume collection, along with traditional Japanese garments on loan for the exhibition. The exhibit is devoted to the interface between traditional Japanese dress and contemporary Western fashion.
Modern Language Fair seeks essay entries
Junior and senior high school students are invited to compete for four $1,000 scholarships in the essay contest. The competition is open to eligible students who will enroll at UNL and declare a major in French, German or Spanish. To enter, students must submit a 300-word essay written in Spanish, French or German around this year’s theme: “How will a degree in modern languages help me achieve my future goals?” Three finalists from each category will be notified by March 24. The finalists in each category will give a five-minute presentation at the Language Fair where they will read their essay and answer questions from a panel of judges in the target language.Drought Mitigation Center joins international research project
The National Drought Mitigation Center at UNL is part of an international project to improve understanding of how drought affects communities, the environment and the economy, and what people can do to prepare. The project is one of the first supported by a recently formed international consortium of agencies that fund environmental change research.Free tax prep service extends to international students and scholars
For the eighth year, UNL is providing free tax preparation services for students and low-income working families. The service learning project is now offering, for the first time, tax preparation services for international students and scholars.
